Word of the Vargen
Law is the natural order of the land, to keep chaos at bay and to provide safety and balance for those that follow the law. These are the basic rules of Valerra and they are to be followed by it's pack members without fail.

IC (In Character) RulesBecoming a Member of Valerra ::- While the largest population of Valerra is of the canine variety (such as wolves, dogs, foxes, etc.), other species are not discouraged from trying to gain acceptance.
- If the always harsh heat from desert life is unsuitable to you, think twice before seeking acceptance. Many ranks that keep the pack flowing involve trekking through volatile climates for days, with or without water and food.
- If you become a member, you must leave your loyalties to any other pack behind. While friendships between packs are encouraged, don't let those friendships influence your decisions concerning your new family.
- It goes without saying that when you come seeking acceptance, you must bring value equal to your worth. Valerra is not an adoption pack and you go your own merry way once you've finished being a member.
- When seeking to leave the pack, you must receive permission from the Vargen, or the Counsel members. Most often you will be given our blessings in your new venture, but don't try to worm your way out after committing a crime.
General Valerra Law ::- The Vargen's word is generally the law and for that matter, most of the Counsel. The alpha's life is ensuring the survival of the pack, and so they follow a strict regime when it concerns providing an example to their pack. Broken rules are punished, no matter what rank or class you hold.
- Living in such close confinement with other creatures can and will create conflict. Most disagreements can be solved by taking the problem to the Counsel of Four. Larger conflicts will be solved by setting up a sparring match, which usually involve a day of sparring set aside for such matters.
- All conflict between two wolves that are to spar will cease to exist until the match occurs at the preset time. Any harm caused to an opponent before the match will result in the offender being judged as a criminal.
- Murder is strictly discouraged and typically the verdict for such infractions is the execution of the offender, by any of the Regents or the Vargen themselves. Or the offender is used in a sparring match against a chosen representative of the victim's family. If the offender wins the fight, they are demoted to the Dreg rank.
- Trespassing and deserting are both frowned upon and any offenders, if caught, will be taken into custody and punished according to their crime.
Following the Sovereignty and Gaining Rank ::- Higher class members are to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times. The higher the class, the closer they are to the Vargen, and the Vargen's ear. Displeasing the alpha is never a good way to improve your own rank.
- In a sense, higher class members have the right to do what they want within reason. IC abuse of power, while sometimes necessary, will not be tolerated if abused. You earned the title and with your actions, it can be taken from you.
- Throughout the seasons, gatherings will be held to earn a rank. However, you are limited to earning a rank that is up one level. Only in rare cases will a wolf jump from being a commoner to being a Sableguard. Never will a commoner become one of the Court members without going through the rank ladder.
- While a healthy respect and an eagerness to learn will please those leaders of the rank you are trying to pursue, sucking up and falsely accusing other members will not get you far.
- Do not pester for whatever rank you want. If you really want that rank, then work for it! Prove that you are both knowledgeable and capable of handling the duties of the rank you are choosing to pursue.
If You Wish to Breed, and Pups ::- While breeding in any class is generally not frowned upon, it is common protocol to seek permission from the Counsel, or the Vargen. Usually the request won't be denied except if there is an over-population of pups.
- It is more common to see the celebration of offspring by allowing those who wish to breed a chance to spar and prove their worth, or two males will spar to see who wins the female if she cannot choose between them. Such spars take place usually in late summer and early spring.
- If a female or male is already in a relationship that they have no intention of leaving, it is their right and they do not have to spar to keep their mate.
- If a female or male is not ready to mate, you must respect their wishes and either seek someone else or do without. Disobeying this law is very offensive and the consequences can be dire to any offenders.
- Killing or harming anyone's puppies is not tolerated and any offenders will be sentenced to death. Simply put, they are the pack's future and must be treated as such.

OOC (Out of Character) Rules- Valerra is a partial-consent pack, meaning your character is largely safe. Certain law-breaking, such as deserting after committing a crime, is no-consent and your character WILL BE HARMED, or killed.
- When posting an escape thread for your wolf, clearly label it in the title of your RP thread. Middleclass or higher are the ONLY ranks allowed to jump in and try to prevent the escape. They have 24 hours to do so before your thread is locked and your escape is successful.
- If certain RPers wish to rp a no-consent thread, it is their choice to do so by marking their thread as such. If you do not wish your character to be in an irreparable situation, then don't join these threads!
- OOC abuse of rank is absolutely not tolerated. Even if you do not get along with another RPer, keep it outside of role-playing if your characters have no reason ICly to not get along. Be the mature one!
- All threads that have been inactive for two months will be locked and moved into the Archives. If you wish to reopen the RP, just ask and it will be moved back and unlocked.
- Valerra has a suggestions board. If there is something about the pack that you disagree with or things you think might make the pack better, that is where those suggestions should go.
- While anyone is welcome to RP in Valerra, please try to make your reply at least two paragraphs, five sentences each. Think about what your wolf would feel, think, or what would be going on in your surroundings if you need something to fluff out your posts.
- When joining an RP, unless your character has knowledge of another character that the other character revealed, you cannot assume you know anything about them. Such as so-and-so is secretly a Striker. The only way your character would know such information was if said Striker had your name on their list, which is not a good place to be. Regardless, this is called meta-gaming which is not allowed.
- God-moding is not allowed, and neither is meta-gaming. First you will be asked by PM to change your post so that it is not god-moding another's character, or revealing information your character should not know ICly. If the problem is not fixed, your RP thread will be locked and you will be asked to fix your post accordingly. Accidents do happen, and that is what the first warning is for!
