Valerra is largely and loosely based on a gladiatorial democracy with a monarchial head. While the alpha is the one ruler, if they at any time endanger the safety and well-being of the pack as a whole, the Sorlig Counsel can demote the alpha and their family and replace he/she with another wolf. If the Regents are two closely involved or loyal with the Alpha, they too can be replaced.
To keep things on a more simple note, if one of the alpha’s children is deemed worthy, they may take the mantle of the Vargen when it is time. Usually at this time new Regents are chosen, those typically close to the new alpha. But not always. Very rarely, but on occasion, the alpha will be challenged by another, and the battle lost. It is then the new alpha’s job to create the pack in their ideal way if they so choose.
The way of Valerra now involves a judicial system mainly solved by preset sparring matches, much like gladiators. Also during these times friendly sparring matches will take place, as well as couples who want to spar for compatibility in breeding, or males fighting over a certain female. Another form of entertainment are mock battles with groups of wolves, or matches between wolves and much larger or stealthier species, such as bears or cats.
To get an ideal image of what kind of pack Valerra is and if it’s the right one for you, picture a pack based on chivalry and honor. This does not make them a weak pack by any means, on the contrary, anyone who claims that a pack that uses sparring matches as a way to show off strength weak, well. That individual is more than welcome to put their theory to the test!
Valerra prides itself as a pack of iron will and above petty dominance. In other words, those who are power hungry and crave total domination over others are not very welcome, and those who are not inclined to fighting or proving their worth probably won’t fit in very well either, although certainly more welcome than the previous individual.
When a pup is born, he/she will stay with it’s parents in the den until around six months of age, when they are beginning to learn how to hunt and fend for themselves. At this time, they will join a class of similar aged pups taught by the Sorlig Counsel. The teaching of pups, since they are the pack’s future, is a highly important job and one of the most important. At a year old, young wolves are then allowed to join the pack’s main core and strive to rise into whatever rank they so wish to achieve.
Much of Valerra’s beginnings are shrouded in mystery, but much of the system that began then are still in place now. Histories do know that the pack began with a wolf, Valeo, and his mate Ilerra. From their pups and fellow pack members began the beginnings of the long road to what Valerra is today. Valeo slowly spread his territory from the woods he claimed as his own to encompass basically the southern gate of the mountains. Those who came to pass through did just that, or bolstered his ranks. And that is the extent of Valerra’s beginnings.
